Energy/ Infrastructure

Energy and especially renewable energy is one of the fastest growing sectors of legal practice in Greece. Major investments in solar and wind power plants are in the pipeline and investors’ appetite constantly increases.

As the energy industry has evolved, our lawyers have adapted their practice to meet the growing needs of our clients. In recent years, the firm has handled an increasing number and variety of deals for developers, production facilities, utilities and other industrial companies in the oil and gas industry and also in the renewable energy sector, including solar energy operators. We regularly advise sponsors and lenders in structuring, documenting and negotiating the financing and security arrangements of energy projects, project agreements and sub-contracts.

Our infrastructure team advises companies interested in taking advantage of the incentives provided by law for green investments. Apart from the customary services in the fields of corporate, private equity or JV formation and project financing, our lawyers, in cooperation with specialized technical advisors, assist our clients in the fields of licensing and regulatory matters entailing interaction with the Regulator (RAE).

We have advised:

  • Hellenic Petroleum Renewable Energy Sources S.A. in its €5.5m acquisition of Energiaki Pylou-Methonis S.A., owner of a 6.8MW operating wind farm, the first wind farm to be acquired by the Hellenic Petroleum group of companies. (November 2013)
  • a major power transmission operator in connection with a privatisation expected to substantially reshape the local energy industry. (September 2013)
  • an international investment fund in relation to the establishment in Greece of a gas trading company. (September 2013)
